Earnhardt Jr Tops First Daytona 500 Practice

Earnhardt’s lap of 188.679 mph in the No. 22 Chevrolet was the quickest of the 46 cars out on the track for the first practice session. No. 5 Mark Martin, No. 24 Jeff Gordon, No. 21 Bill Elliott and No. 7 Robby Gordon were the rest of the top 5 on the speed chart. The cars ran just one or two laps each to set up for Saturday’s qualifying. Rain halted the 80-minute session after about 45 minutes.

Earnhardt ran a fast lap of 190.913 mph in the No.88 AMP Energy / National Guard Chevrolet. His last time on the front row was in 2003 when he started second and finished 36th.

Hendrick power is no doubt very strong at Daytona so not much of a surprise.....but I do think Jr with Lance McGrew rebounds nicely in 2010
